Based on the anime by Xebec, the game puts players in the role of Kazuki Makabe, a resident of peaceful Ryugujima island, who's enlisted into service when the island comes under siege from giant robots. Kazuki is required to join his subconscious with a giant "Fafner" robot and take on numerous robots in mission-based combat. The Fafner carries a variety of weapons, which can we switched at the touch of a button, and later stages allow you to select a partner robot, to which you can dictate commands. The game follows the anime fairly closely, and includes many cut-scenes and story sections, complete with plenty of voice acting and even a dynamic music score.
