We take the English subtitle from Virtuality’s release, which in turn comes from TakaNishi’s WebRip release. Thanks to these people for creating the subtitles.
Based on Virtuality’s version, we modify OP and ED styling and spacing to make the songs more watchable.
The subtitles in this release have been subset, which means:
If you want to remux this subtitle into your release, make sure you include all the fonts and you’re good to go. Despite the number of fonts in this release, it adds up to mere 4 MiB, which is the magic of font subsetting. Thanks to people at AmusementClub that make this possible.
If you want to modify the subtitle upon my version, if you don’t mind contacting me, send me a message via Marshmallow or in Discord and I will send you the originals as well as the fonts. Alternatively if you don’t want to contact me, open the subtitle in a text editor, and replace the all generated fontname in style and \fn
with the original fontname following the comments at the very top.

If you want a bigger version but with better detail retention, you can opt for ReinForce’s version (1.1 GiB per episode).
If you don’t care about filesize, you can try the original BD instead (6.8 GiB per episode).
The source is very based with almost no artefacts. Only in rare occasions, especially when there are scaling involved in the original production, are there some very slight ringing around the lines. There is a layer of added noise atop the image. We decide to denoise it first in the filtering and generate it back during encoding.
To filter, we use DFTTest
and vsdenoise.BM3D
to denoise, and then vsdehao.edge_cleaner
to clean up the remaining noise around the lines as well as the very occasional ringing.
For encoding, we use Progression Boost Preset-Butteraugli-3Norm-INFNorm-Max to deliver a rather high quality encode. This is the metric of episode 01 without film grain compared to the filtered source:
Metric | Mean | Standard Deviation | 95th or 5th Percentile | Worst Single Frame |
---|---|---|---|---|
Butteraugli 3Norm | 0.438 | 0.052 | 0.509 | 0.632 |
Butteraugli INFNorm | 1.607 | 0.436 | 2.449 | 7.778 |
SSIMU2 | 89.859 | 1.413 | 87.664 | 83.965 |
We use svt-av1-psyex testing branch for the encode, and these are the encoding parameters: --preset [-1 ~ 0] --crf [7.75 ~ 25.00] --tune 0 --qm-min 8 --chroma-qm-min 10 --luminance-qp-bias 8 --qp-scale-compress-strength 3 --noise-norm-strength 4 --film-grain 0 --complex-hvs 1 --psy-rd 3.5 --spy-rd 0
.
After svt-av1-psyex, we use av1an’s --photon-noise 9
to generate a similar level of noise compared to the source.
Thanks to all the people creating the tools, plugins and vsfunc’s that make this possible, and thanks to everyone in the community for teaching me and giving me advice.
