As promised, the second episode, much faster than before (<1 day after airing!). Translation, editing, and typesetting by me (Neuro-C), timing based on Netflix’s Japanese subs. Video from Netflix, via NanDesuKa (https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1443628).
✔️ All relevant signs translated and typeset
✔️ Includes OP and ED subs
✔️ Still not machine translated, or translated from a language other than Japanese
Unless something significant changes, I won't be doing the following episodes; from here on out, I'll leave it to the great people over at NovaWorks.
It would be very nice if someone with a nyaa account could rehost this on there again, as I still don't have an account and they still don't allow anonymous uploads. Thanks!
@Tsukudakobashi Platinum End is already being translated ? & if you're talking about Komi-san They uploaded the first ep because nova was taking too much time & already started working on episode 2
Nova is doing a good job except they committed a cardinal sin of Fansubbing. Localization. In episode 1 they used an American cub scouts song that focuses on the theme of friendship and cooperation and unity and did minimial research for the Japanese song Ichi nensei ne nattara. They directly took a abbreviated explanation directly from wikipedia and put it n their comment section to explain their change. And I feel they didn't do any research on the Japanese song itself. Didn't read the full translated lyrics nor find the true meaning. I feel like they so the wiki explanation and went "oh it covers this subject", and found a very specific substitution that only covers one theme and wasn't even a proper equivalent. The Japanese song had a context alluding to multiple things. Nova does an excellent job in translating signs but they did localization, and they didn't even bother to put a translators note within the episode. I applaud their attempt to get a meaning across but, they messed up on trying to convey something that's part of Japanese culture with a Western/American localization reference. That's one of the big no -nos in fans subbing. Don't use localization in subs. Liberal or creative translations to get Japanese cultural references across are fine are fine; replacements with western localization references is not. A localization replacement does not equal a creative translation.
Shame that you won't be continuing. Really. I liked your translation style way more.
And lol@ people that are complaining about that song in nova works (and it's not like I don't agree with Haiyami). It's really a minor problem. Just wait till episode 2 and you'll see why.
I still don't get why they swapped name order (not only because it's essential in episode 2 and later because Osana Najimi name is a pun, which I don't even want to know how they will handle it). While I get that someone don't what to use honorifics (still dumb if we are talking about subs, for me it's only acceptable for dub, because of its nature and target audience), but swapping name order is straight retarded, irrational and just offensive. Creating such dissonance should be avoided at all cost.
People are amazed how "good" thier subs are, but they are only talking about typesetting. And honestly, I prefer typesetting in this (Neuro-C) release too.
@vikrant the manga is 300 chapters in and has slowly built up popularity over the years. personally i think it's pretty overrated and both the comedy elements and the romance elements are poorly executed with terrible pacing compared to other romcoms
@ap1234 I see. Thanks for the explanation. I couldn't understand why everyone was so insanely overhyped about it.
Every romcom has protagonists who either have trouble making friends, conveying their feelings or stuff like that so this isn't anything special. We have literally seen this a thousand times before.
@Haiyami Some who actually know what is mean a good sub.
"Unless something significant changes, I won’t be doing the following episodes; from here on out, I’ll leave it to the great people over at NovaWorks."
Sadly there is no point for me to download your sub then. I guess there is only way is to watch this with Bad subs....
@Haiyami
Thanks, now I know to steer clear of them. People take nuance for granted, little things matter. There's nothing wrong with learning a little about the culture who's media you're consuming. Else we'd just be translating 'itadakimasu' to 'rub dub dub thanks for the grub' all the time.
@phantomthiev every character’s name is a pun. now that netflix subs are coming out novaworks should leave the faggotry to them. but they won’t for whatever reason.
You’re going to leave the subbing of this anime to a group that localises the hell out of it?
Americanising songs, Americanised name order, no honorifics…
Christ.
Looks like it’s back to AnimoTVSlash I go then.
