Thanks my computer run the AV1 videos very slow any solution ?
only 16GB? Think I will keep this instead ?
so AV1 is the new meme in town
Nice meme. Welcome to the successor of **VP9.** ffmpeg.... 20 year old audio encoder. Just kill me.
isn't new "VVC H.266" better than this AV1 and HEVC theoretically and should successor the both?
**@Aryma** You mean 12-bit? Hell no. **H265** is good enough for 2D animation as of now. **H266** is currently still in testing.
Av1 is the new meme after avc 10bits, they have 0 hardware support. Better not to bother with av1, after hevc h266 vvc was approved as a standard and soon will be the succesor to hevc. I don't know what you bother to encode to this meme. There is no gain. I quote A follow-up comparison by Jan Ozer of Streaming Media Magazine confirmed this, and concluded that "AV1 is at least as good as HEVC now".[47] Ozer noted that his and Bitmovin's results contradicted a comparison by Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications from late 2016[48] that had found AV1 38.4% less efficient than HEVC, underperforming even H.264/AVC, and justified this discrepancy by having used encoding parameters endorsed by each encoder vendor, as well as having more features in the newer AV1 encoder. Decoding performance was at about half the speed of VP9 according to internal measurements from 2017.[39]
**@Sts115** That pretty much sums it up. Even h264 is better than this. Could have used h264 or h265 at least. Hopefully that info you put up there gets the uploader's attention. I know this took project took a hell of a lot of CPU power and time.
So this video format isn't good to keep for the future?
**Hifumi_l** It's very incompatible and really not great when it comes to compression for video. I'd really recommend you stay away from it. This is a codec that will never be used in the future.

@Sts115 @Ingenioussubs I wish you would do more research. Firstly, hardware support for AV1 is coming out first, the target is the end of this year, with some mobile devices already out. For VVC, it is going to be much later (2022). And for an actual usable encoder, give it another decade or so. Secondly, Jan Ozer writes "AV1 is at least as good as HEVC now", followed by "and will likely be quite a lot better when bitstream is frozen". In 2017. The AV1 bitstream was frozen in 2018. Again, this is evident in Ozer's follow-up comparisons in 2018 that found "AV1 was the clear leader" beating HEVC by more than 30%. As for adoption, it's already being used on youtube and netflix. VVC may never appear on the web since once again, patent hell.
oh dear.... it plays well on vlc andriod but guess I'll thrash this. no use keeping something I may not be able to play in the future on a bunch of different devices (like usb to tv etc.)
@Sts115 @Ingenious subs, I can tell you know jack nothing about codecs and compression in general. Properly tuned AV1 can be monstrously efficient. Also, does VVC have hardware support? Can you watch fucking VVC in anything modern? At least with modern Firefox and Chrome, and VLC and MPV and many others video players, Jellyfish, etc, you can actually watch AV1. You kind of dumbasses are why nothing ever progresses in some fields. And some new phones can hardware decode AV1, and Samsung's new TVs can decode AV1 fine now. Finally, no 10-bit HW decoders existed until 2016, 3 years after HEVC came out. The base AV1 spec has been finished in 2018, and we'll be getting hardware decoding this year already.
Let's calm down and take this one step at a time: > ffmpeg… 20 year old audio encoder FFmpeg has been here for a long time, it is being updated daily and there are many builds of it. It is incredibly flexible and supports every codec under the sun. Calling it an audio encoder is not only wrong but also incorrect. It is a tool used for controlling encoders and decoders inside it, has many filters and if you are masochistic enough can be a full fledged video editor. Most of the GUI's that you find for video encoding are wrappers around it. > isn’t new “VVC H.266” better than this AV1 and HEVC theoretically and should successor the both? VVC has demonstrated incredible efficiency surpassing AV1, however it has many issues, biggest of them is the encoding speed. On fast computers (8th gen i7 and above) you will usually see speeds of around 1 frame per 10 minutes. Decoding performance is also horrible and overall support for it is nonexistent. Of course with time it will improve, but the efficiency will go down, because when you need to achieve usable speeds, you need to reduce complexity, thus removing efficiency gains. Also many royalty issues with VVC with prevent it from mass adoption unlike AV1. > You mean 12-bit? Hell no. H265 is good enough for 2D animation as of now. 12bit offers diminishing returns compared to 10bit, and I highly doubt it will see mass adoption for media consumption. The only reasonable area to use it would be for recording. H265 is being constantly outperformed by AV1. Biggest issue with it right now is poor 10bit optimization for decoding. HAV1T and the rest of the community managed to pinpoint a few filters that cause major playback issues, so expect a playable 10bit AV1 release in a couple of days. Interesting note is that in some cases AV1 encoding is outperforming HEVC in both speed and efficiency (very slow, placebo).
> Bitmovin’s results contradicted a comparison by Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications from late 2016[48] that had found AV1 38.4% less efficient than HEVC, underperforming even H.264/AVC, and justified this discrepancy by having used encoding parameters endorsed by each encoder vendor, as well as having more features in the newer AV1 encoder. Decoding performance was at about half the speed of VP9 according to internal measurements from 2017. AV1 began active development somewhere around 2015, so it is no wonder that the performance sucked in 2016. Bitstream format was frozen only in 2018, what that means is some features were being added or removed, tuning was not a concern at the time. Since 2018 there has been incredible strives in efficiency gains, incredible decoding optimizations (for 8bit) and overall tuning. However by claiming that AV1 decoding speed was only twice as slow as VP9 I tend to doubt validity of the tests, due to VP9 being incredibly fast to decode in software, even surpassing h264. I must stress the words software, h264 has hardware decoders, it will be a lot faster in hardware decoding. > Even h264 is better than this Depends what you want. If you want decoding performance, then yes. If you want low file size with great visual quality, AV1 is currently the best option out there.
> It’s very incompatible and really not great when it comes to compression for video. I’d really recommend you stay away from it. This is a codec that will never be used in the future. From a software point of view this claim is entirely false. All of modern browsers support AV1, VLC plays it, MPV too. Even more support is coming. As for Hardware decoding, it is currently lacking, but there are a few android phones that already support it and some smart TV's do too. By the end of the year a lot of new devices will have hardware AV1 decoding for both 8bit and 10bit (due to the standard including 10bit) I also must add that Ingenioussubs seems to be a biased source due to all of his encodes being in HEVC. HEVC is a great codec, I won't deny it, but getting your subjective opinion in an objective discussion is not smart.
Man the comments here are painful to read, you can't outright dismiss a codec that is not only so young (and thus needs more research into), but also be so wrong about its performances. In any case, thanks 8w for this release. even though you went absolutely overkill on audio bitrate.
@Hifumi_l this codec will be very common and adopted in the future since its royalty free and improves h265 in many ways. For instance, youtube is already using it for videos and netflix is going to use it in the near future.
@Hifumi_l as others said this will be most common codec used in the near future. There are thousands of AV1 8bit videos available right now on youtube. Almost all of the new videos with more than a million views has AV1 versions. This is an open source codec so it will be preferred over other codecs like vvc by Google, Netflix, other streaming sites with new / capable compute infrastructure. Mediateks dimensity 1 soc has hardware decode AV1 support, intel Tigerlake has 8k30 h/w AV1 decode it will be adopted much more. When it comes to efficiency AV1 is definitely better than h265 for animated content. Software decode will get better on desktop x86 in the future, it's inevitable. This is the best way to archive anime content for the near future rightnow. you should keep it.
I admit I was wrong about AV1 never being used in the future. I was being too biased. We'll see how it goes.
Glad I didnt click delete. actually im very happy with the quality so far. it looks and sounds so good. it works perfectly on vlc mobile too. thanks a lot, really. ?
I'm already very impressed by AV1. Half the size of equivalent HEVC encodes.
Av1 fate is like vp8 and vp9, forgotten and only used by YouTube.
You admitted setting placebo settings in order to get 30 percent of gain. Well guess what? Any codec, even x264 can surpass hevc by using placebo settings. But who is so idiot to encode with such settings and encoding for entire days? Crearly you got nothing to do in your life.
3rd. I never said av1 or hevc is better. i said there is almost no gain because av1 has nearly 0 hw support and may never be, as the Blu ray association will use vvc after hevc. They wont allow av1 to be used in the blu ray standard.
I did more research and Netflix latest encodings show mixed results depending on source, and those indicate 20 percent of gain at best. I quote
Then there’s the fact that AVC decoders are embedded nearly everywhere. Creating a product with an AV1 decoder will take about 18 months and it will take longer for support to be ubiquitous. It will happen eventually, but not on the day ratification of the standard is complete “Given enough time and computational power all codecs produce good results. But, does everyone have infinite time and small nuclear power-stations feeding their datacenters?” Compatibility is even more important. “AV1 is supported in software, in beta, only on Firefox Nightly and reliably only for SD resolutions,” he says. “HEVC is supported by the majority of high-end new STB chipsets, making it appealing for broadcast. In browsers things are not quite as rosy, with only Apple Safari supporting it in software from iOS 11 and with hardware where available. This gives it access to ~8% of browsers for streaming.
**@Sts115** wtf do you do with your life.

@Sts115 buddy it's already been 18 months Intel's tiger lake is coming out next month with an av1 decoder also https://caniuse.com/#feat=av1
Ingenioussubs at least not encoding av1 for days like an idiot hehe
@wwwwwwww are you comparing a simple release with the widely HEVC HW support of TVs, Blu ray players, android boxes etc? You made me laugh hehehe
Sts115 you're the one that makes me laugh, the people behind those android boxes, you know google? and ARM who makes the processors, as well as desktop/laptop CPU and GPU makers Intel, Nvidia, and AMD are all part of the ones making AV1, you keep thinking in terms of "HEVC is popular now so it must stay popular" ignoring the whole reason AV1 is being made is because the big players in digital media not earning money from HEVC are trying to avoid the patent hell that is is. All these companies are going to adpot it not just Youtube and Netflix you daft fool https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_for_Open_Media#Governing_members
Are you retard? Those companies are almost the same as the ones supporting vp9, the codec that was forgotten and being the second option. And we know it will be used only on yt and maybe netflix. Even so, yt is still using avc for compatibility, as netflix will do. Av1 will still be the second or third option for playback. I repeat, yo do not read. Its already been decided which codec will be the succesor to hevc and mainstream hw support, sadly it is not av1. It's vvc. Even though you hate it is not royalty free, its been already decided. Av1 will try to be mainstream then vvc will appear, repeating the process again with newer codecs.
"to avoid the patent hell that is is." You already said by yourself. They are trying, good luck with that as MPEG LA still rules over hw decoders and standards.
The Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) is a non-profit industry consortium for the development of open, royalty-free technology for multimedia delivery headquartered in Wakefield, Massachusetts. It adopts the principles of the development of open web standards for the creation of video standards that can serve as royalty-free alternatives to the hitherto dominant standards of the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and the related business model that exploits intellectual property through patent royalties and became associated with financial uncertainties, especially for internet companies and innovators Looks like you do not read your own shit. Do you know the meaning of the word "alternative"?
"Those companies are almost the same as the ones supporting vp9" Factually wrong, only Google developed VP9, not AOMedia " Av1 will still be the second or third option for playback" I never said it wouldn't, your retarded ass is trying to walk back your claims from before "Av1 fate is like vp8 and vp9, forgotten and only used by YouTube." " I never said av1 or hevc is better. i said there is almost no gain because av1 has nearly 0 hw support and may never be" To take one of your numbers, I never said AV1 is going to be HEVC's Successor or be better than VVC, however your bullshit claims about "only used by Youtube" and "0 hw support and may never be" are what I am calling out The successor to HEVC is VVC, I would never call AV1 the successor to HEVC because the same people did not make it. Again you already claimed just youtube and netflix, Intel has AV1 decoders in their GPUs with Nvidia and AMD to follow, because Intel, Nvidia, and AMD are part of the AOMedia, the idea that it wont get any mainstream hardware support is already factually wrong. also more hardware support is listed here, such as some 2020 8K TV's that support it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AV1#Hardware "MPEG LA still rules over hw decoders " You do realize QSV, NVDEC, and AMD's UVD are all hardware decoders that support more than one format. You're the one that doesn't seem to understand the meaning of the world alternative retard, again I never said AV1 is better than VVC, You claimed it will get no support, It already got more support than you claimed it would ever get, therefore your claims are bullshit. No I don't believe AV1 will be the Blu-ray player standard, I do however believe for streaming media, "android boxes", phones, and PC GPU's it will be supported
I repeat, do you know the meaning of the word ALTERNATIVE?
Never said it won't be supported. I said right now it is not supported. Read your own shit again and learn to read. Some hw decoders will be released, HEVC already got support on nearly all hw equipment, who is so idiot to buy a New PC TV and equipment only to get an AV1 hw support? Av1 is an alternative. MPEGLA still rules, hate it or not.
"Never said it won't be supported" I literally quoted your post https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1270336#com-23 https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1270336#com-25 "and only used by YouTube" "because av1 has nearly 0 hw support and may never be" "only. . . Youtube" and "may never be" Is not the same as "right now it is not supported" "HEVC already got support on nearly all hw equipment," Yes so? " who is so idiot to buy a New PC TV and equipment only to get an AV1 hw support? " Yes I agree, this would be idiotic, the point is the format is still being developed and support is going up, we bring up the hardware decoders to say that adoption is increasing not that adoption is higher or even par with AVC or HEVC. AV1 is an alternative was never something I denied. " MPEGLA still rules, hate it or not" From this and your " MPEG LA still rules over hw decoders and standards." " It’s vvc. Even though you hate it is not royalty free" You seem to think I hate HEVC, VVC, AVC, or MPEGLA, I do not, I use HEVC and AVC all the time. I don't have to pay royalties because i'm not a corporation that relies on it, I don't know why you would think defending AV1 means I must hate its competition. Regardless my download has been finished for awhile so i'm done arguing here
I said "may" so technically i said eventually they will released. I always talked in the present tense. The defenders of av1 are arguing over future plans. Reality is majority of ppl bought new equipment to get support of hevc codec, and many buy to at least use that equipment for years. No one would buy a new pc to only get support of a new released codec, besides, those new chips are not going to be cheap. It is true av1 is royalty free and saves SOME space depending on content, but the downsides are encoding time (takes hours and days) and compatibility (right now there is nearly 0 hw support. (I am speaking in the present tense. Learn to read) future is dubious, no one knows and certainly i repeat, most are not going to buy a new PC laptop TV get only a codec. It is better to wait for the release or vvc on hw equipment so at least we would have the support of 2 new mainstream codecs. Up until now it happens that way. Certainly av1 came at a wrong time.
so long story - can we play this casually ? only you lot are talking technicalities. i shall represent the normal people. can we play this with atleast VLC vanilla (PC) ? by vanilla i mean download - install - play only . no complicated settings.
@Julier I'm not sure about this release, but the latest one from HAV1T (Attack on Titan Season 3) should be playable by vanilla vlc.
@Sts115 Have a read from the founder of MPEG himself. https://blog.chiariglione.org/a-future-without-mpeg/
@Montec : Thank you :) will keep an eye out for information.
@montec learn to read. That crap still guesses about future. I am talking in the PRESENT TENSE. that article is pure crap. MPEG LA is still ruling over standards and no, I don't think it will disappear soon.
@Julier it will be decoded by SW by your pc and yes, you need a powerful pc or it will lag because av1 is complex to decode. Forget about playing on a cellphone and tv boxes as it will play on SW mode and SW playback on Android is horrendous.
I came back just to pick a fight with you because i'm petty like that, you shit eating, 3rd world ESL retard, learn to speak english. Then kill yourself My last point was how your claims of no support were false, but you keep parroting this "Learn to read" >guesses about future. I am talking in the PRESENT TENSE >I always talked in the present tense >"always" https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1270336#com-23 "Av1 fate is. . . only youtube" This is not present tense https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1270336#com-25 " av1 has nearly 0 hw support and may never" "av1 has nearly 0 hw support" Is present tense "and may never" This is not present tense https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1270336#com-33 "And we know it will be used only on yt and maybe netflix" "will be used" This is not present tense "will be the succesor to hevc and mainstream hw support, sadly it is not av1" see how you said "and mainstream" this implies your point about successor of HEVC is different from your point about it getting mainstream hardware support " Av1 will try to be mainstream then vvc will appear" This is not present tense https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1270336#com-40 "I said “may” so technically i said eventually they will released. I always talked in the present tense" "always talked in the present tense" "eventually they will" this is not present tense and confirms you were infact speaking about hw decoders in the future tense. Basically with you, when it comes to predicting the future with you, if it is about vvc and positive then you can make it, if it is about av1's future you pretend like no one is allowed to talk about the future and you were talking about the present tense the whole time. If you weren't a hypocrite and were actually talking about the present tense "always" as you say then you have never bothered mentioning VVC
Learn to read. Yo don't know the meaning of the word "alternative". Read everything, not the shit you want to read. I clearly said there is no guarantee for what will happen. Come in ten years then tell me i am wrong, you faggot.
@Sts115 : Thank you :) , so basically AV1 is still not practical for the mass/majority of the people. guess we can only wait until it would level in with common devices.
Better download this https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1144373
so after all this mess guys is it good to download or not short answer please

@TheUnKnowN Short answer: if you have capable hardware and want to be an early adopter, there is no reason not to. I would advise researching on your own to make an educated decision. I would also ignore what Sts115 says here because most of it is nonsense. You would not have performance issues if you have a powerful enough pc, or are using an android phone from the past 5 years.
Short answer NO
Even on new android phones SW decoding is horrible, you will notice lines and crap on the screen
Short answer: if you have capable hardware and want to be an early adopter, there is no reason not to. (That is not short dumbass)
Actually there is another reason i was forgetting. The only way to enjoy 10bit is to hw decode the data, this crap even encoded to 10bit it will be 8bit because of SW decoder and a laptop screen. Fortunately there are 10bit panel TVs with HW decoding for HEVC 10bit so you can enjoy true 10bit decoding and playback. Tv boxes decode and send 10bit signals too, and the only way to true enjoy and actually watch 10bit videos is by hw decoding HEVC.
https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1144373 The same release has 3857 downloads and more ppl are downloading, this crap is not even near that.
@Sts115 Till now all your bullshit seemed somewhat convincing, but when you pointed to a 720p release, with significantly larger size, you lost the battle man. The point of having a new encoder is produce smaller file size while maintaining compatibility, and AV1 is doing that well. The biggest drawback of HEVC is it's incompatibility with all web browsers, slower adoption due to the royalties. The web support is a big deal because of PWAs (read more about it). For those wondering how well it plays, just download a single episode and test it yourself; if it works, good. If not, move on to some other release. It's that simple. AV1 might not be the the best performer out there right now, and you may get smaller file size with VVC in future, but that doesn't even matter. If it can beat HEVC, get wider adoption, and improve upon its predecessors (AVC, VP9), it'll be a success. And it beats all three of them.
everything plays perfectly from my stock andriod phone with stock vlc. quality is superb. I wonder why theres a person trolling here day and night! Pls get admin to ban.
Hifumi on a small screen may not be noticeable, but it's there. Play on an Android box and you will notice lines and artifacts, that is because SW decodes 8bit. Salarx are you kidding? You are downloading this to watch on a browser? Hehehe. Ban? I am only showing the real deal, even with quotes from internet. You do not know or don't want yo know the meaning of the word ALTERNATIVE, as av1 is. Read again. You lack reading capabilities.
I quote "because it is new, streaming AV1 in HD requires a powerful computer, and only some videos have AV1 available at this time. Choosing to stream AV1 in SD will use AV1 up to 480p, and VP9 for higher formats." So even YT is not using av1 by default. Your "broad support for browsers" is a meme ???? Youtube still uses avc for compatibility you know, and I don't think they will remove the avc videos.

what do you get from commenting so much? ??? you clearly have no idea how video formats and computers work ??? ???????????????
@Sts115 sike. I am gonna Email Google and Netflix and tell them to stop developing AV1 and get out of SIWG they just formed. Why is Netflix wasting so much of my subscriber money on developing new codecs when they should be spending that money on new shows. I am gonna tell them i don't watch Netflix on a computer so i don't need AV1 support until my Firestick gets hardware support. I am gonna tell them that i am going to cancel my subscription and never join Netflix until they stop wasting my money. What is the point of new codecs anyway? Codecs don't matter to me so i should totally be able to decide whether or not something like a codec that others might use should be chosen
??? you clearly have no idea how video formats and computers work ??? ??????????????? Sources? All i read is your pity opinion.
Netflix will laugh at you because avc streams will still be employed clown. It is the same with youtube, no matter what codecs will appear avc will stay for compatibility.
@wwwwwwww i get the same results as you encoding for entire days ????
https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1144373 better than this crap. Enjoy seeding with seedbox
why aren't you even complaining about AV1's legitimate (current) weakness? oh wait, you're clinging to an older, patent fee encumbered codec and haven't tested this one with any effort. on the decoding front, even my SGS7 can play 10-bit 1080p av1 just fine. you must be doing something wrong if you're seeing "lines and crap." and my 2c2t Haswell Pentium G3258 can play most 10-bit 1080p alright (2.40:1 is fine). i could probably OC it if i cared about playing 1.85/1.78:1 smoothly on that box. 2c4t Zen1 should play it just fine, tho
still waiting for fate kaleid movie
Can you autists take your video codec preference wars to doom9 or something thanks.
Any solution to slow/choppy playback? or is it my machine unable to keeping up?
@karabiner99k as av1 is an alternative it doesn't have hw support yet, your machine is unable to keep up. Download this https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1144373
Make sure you have the latest VLC or mpv installed. Could also be that you don't have a powerful enough cpu as well.
@karabiner99k: if you use mpv: https://www.reddit.com/r/AV1/comments/gjq2mv/drastically_improving_av1_playback/ ...also MPC-BE i discovered was just updated 3 days ago and helps on my 2400G daily driver (essentially a Haswell i7 equivalent) ...uses only ~25-30% CPU
Oh great, another autistic codec with zero support being pushed down everyone's throats for marginal gains is exactly the show we've been missing for a while.
Oh great, another autistic person who can't read or google
What a pile of shit this batch is, I straight out deleted it updated mpc finally thought it would play it does play but then started and then everything went to shit choppy/ slow kinda laggy viewing I dunno but I'm staying away from this dude releases hopefully someone else will pick up this series and put out till then I can love without this particular batch
Better download this https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1144373
Ohys-raws is shit for this show. Only alternative for now though. Shit. Have to download for the subs. AnimeTosho didn't fetch this meme release. Why is every release shit for this. Good god. Can't take this anymore. Using Beatrice and combining all three seasons, to actually make something proper. Good grief. Can't play this back in mpv, without extreme lag/choppy frames. My computer is toast. How is that even possible. Using VLC is another meme. Anyone who downloads this, I gotta tell ya. Enjoy the playback.
The autism is stong here

I was looking around to change my Kaleid folder of 55GB to something more compacted, and then found this gold mind, amazing work dude! I downloaded the recommended MPC-HC (I don't use VLC) and it works flawlessly! Keep it up my guy, this is the future ^_^
Any help with this kind of format on MPV? It's laggy as fuck.
@Naoya45 On my side MPV playback is flawless. Probably your hardware.
this is a one hell of a comment section, i have no idea what you lot were talking about, i don't speak english (and i mean the "words" being used in this kind of world), all i do is download, encode, upload and then upload again, as simple as that, well whatever, im still downloading this..
Thank you so much.
Many thanks for taking your time and encoding this to AV1!
Damn idk whats happening but if he says good computers can take it, then why not? Thanks for this my dude
Thanks for this, ignore the ungrateful assholes above, i forget how entitled anime fans can be.
Streaming to ios with infuse on my 2016 SE, av1 stutters like hell.
This comment section is similar to those in first HEVC releases.
100th comment ! yay
TLDR: Only losers can't run AV1 or HEVC lossless chads keep winning
